Trainings

Sustainable Change

Through our trainings, we create learning networks in our partner organisations. In our non-academic trainings, we focus on sustainable change. We do that by looking for partners who are currently making a change in their countries, for example developing a new building code or a new hydrogen roadmap. Ideally, the partners are capable of integrating the trainings in their own structures, for example through a training of trainers approach.

How does it work?

These self-paced E-learning courses aims to show the potentials for Sustainable Chemistry in the construction sector and to answer the following questions:
  • How can plastics be used in a sustainable way in buildings?
  • What obstacles are there and how can they be overcome?
  • Which steps need to be followed, under consideration of regional differences?
  • What are recommendations for the areas of research, sustainable innovation, capacity building and policy.
It takes approximately 10 hours to complete all 5 modules.

Voices:

"As someone who is deeply passionate about the environment, I am thrilled to express how the ISC3 policy training program has greatly enhanced my understanding of the relationship between Sustainable Chemistry and the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM). The comprehensive training has provided me with valuable insights into the crucial role that Sustainable Chemistry plays in promoting responsible and sustainable chemical management practices globally. I am grateful for the knowledge and awareness gained through this program, which will undoubtedly contribute to my efforts in fostering a greener and safer world for future generations."

"I loved that the training involved various players in the field of construction, thus we learnt a lot from each other. There were architects, quantity surveyors, Kenya’s National Construction Authority’s officials and environmental engineers as well. We all have a role to play in ensuring sustainability, from the design phase, to implementation and inspection, all the way to the decommissioning phase."

Example: Plastics in Sustainable Building

In 2020, ISC3 published a workstream report on sustainable living and plastics. It treats topics like urbanisation, affordable housing, human health, and the building life cycle and specifically focusses on the role of plastics in these topics.

Training on the use of plastics in sustainable building.

Because of interest from partners in Kenya, a training program is being developed. The process is moderated together with Carpus+Partner AG and strongly depends on the involvement of our partners in Kenya: National Construction Authority (NCA) , Center for Science and Technology Innovation (CSTI) and the Kenya Green Building Society (KGBS) .

Initial outcomes are improving the quality of life in Kenya and making sure plastics are used in the best possible, circular way, thereby not harming the environment. Possible outcomes on the policy level are the inclusion of Sustainable Chemistry concepts in Kenya’s new building code.

In February 2022, the first 6 modules took place in collaboration with the partners in Kenya, where more than 100 participants took part in a virtual workshop. A follow-up phase is planned, where we are looking for new partners and countries to work on those materials with.
