Master of Science

Professional Master in Sustainable Chemistry (M.Sc.)
at the Leuphana University

Launched in March 2020 at Leuphana University Professional School, the interdisciplinary program provides expert interdisciplinary training and teaches a broad understanding of sustainable chemistry along the life cycle of chemical products, services, and functions – from the molecular level to global resource and product flows.

Chemistry is the key enabling science for the products we use in our everyday life. Every sector of our society, from agriculture, healthcare, mobility, energy to the digital sector has been and is being shaped by chemical innovations. While substantially contributing to our health and wellbeing, chemistry plays an important role in facing today’s challenges of resource depletion, climate change and pollution as well as for securing a sustainable development of our societies.

In 2021, the Masters programme was listed among United Nations SDG Good Practices (UN DESA) for its active contribution to the achievement of SDGs 4, 9, 12 and 17. Read more

About the M.Sc. Sustainable Chemistry

The programme is aimed at highly motivated professionals with a degree (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in chemistry, chemical, bio, and environmental engineering, pharmacy, biochemistry or related fields and at least one year of relevant work experience who wish to integrate expertise in sustainability into their professional portfolio.

The M.Sc. in Sustainable Chemistry is designed as a blended learning program, combining e-learning with clustered classroom sessions including lectures, seminars, group work, and laboratory exercises. This way, professionals may complete the program from wherever they are based, while still having the chance to meet their peers on-site at Leuphana University. The M.Sc. Sustainable Chemistry at Leuphana Professional School is an important milestone for the integration of Sustainable Chemistry into the higher education of researchers, executives, and practitioners.
